Access points come in different sizes. Home routers have built-in access points. Enterprise access points are ceiling-mounted and managed centrally. Outdoor access points are weatherproof. Mesh access points work together to cover large areas. Each has different power and features.

Access point features

• SSID: network name
• Security: WPA2, WPA3
• Bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz
• Power: PoE or adapter
• Management: cloud or controller

Access points are the front door of the wireless network. They must be placed carefully. Too few means dead zones. Too many means interference. Channel selection matters. Power levels matter. A good wireless network is designed, not just installed. The access point is the key.
