At the end of a match, players type "gg." It stands for "good game." It is a sign of sportsmanship. You say it whether you won or lost. It acknowledges the effort of the opponent. It is polite. It is also sometimes fake. A player who dominated might type "gg" to be gracious. A player who lost might type it through gritted teeth.

GG is one of the oldest gaming acronyms. It dates back to the 1990s and early online games. It is universal. You can type it in any game, in any language. It is a small ritual. It marks the end of a match. It says, "We competed. Now we part."

GG is not always sincere. Some players type it sarcastically. Some type it before the match ends, which is rude. The acronym is a convention. Its meaning depends on the context. In a close match, GG is respect. In a blowout, it is a formality. Either way, it is part of the culture.
